Oppa Gangnam Style

I know. I know. I've been neglecting the blog for quite a while. Sigh. Soooorrryyyyy. Gotta try putting more discipline in blogging routine.

Oh, don't worry, I'm not gonna blog about how to dance to 'Oppa Gangnam Style' song. But of course, I'd like to blog about my favourite topic; food! You see, food can be a good way to reconcile with old friends. I mean, a decent meal would make the meeting less awkward, true?

Anyway, back to the topic! I've never tried any Korean food before. I was too scared of how the taste might turn out! I had Japanese food all the time, since I was a baby (*exaggerating*) ! And I love Japanese food! So I was a bit nervous when I decided to try on Korean!

So, we went in this Korean restaurant at e@Curve called 'Bulgogi Brothers'.

'Annyeong-haseyo', they greeted us! I swear I felt like I was in Korea and I almost replied, 'Hye Oppa'!

Looked at the menu and we didn't know what to order! All these foreign terms; Haemul Doenjang, Kaal Doenjang, what?

We ordered 'Bulgogi Bibimbab' and 'Bibim Guksu'

 Bulgogi Bibimbab

- Beef , vegetable and yolk on top of hot rice, served with spicy sauce.

Bibim Guksu

- Cold noodle with mountains of shredded cucumber, kimchi, bean sprouts and eggs. Served with spicy sauce.

I was stupid enough not to read the word COLD! *slaps forehead*

Called the waiter to ask the chef to reheat the noodle. Chef came out and explained that by reheating it, the sauce will be spoilt - temperature related.

Sigh.

The chef was kind and sweet enough to exchange the meal for me, without charging for my Bibim Guksu. Yay! I almost hugged her.

Since I've tried Bulgogi Bibimbab, and it was delish, I wasn't hesitate to order Chicken Bibimbab!

I dont't know why, or maybe it's just me but I prefer Japanese food over Korean food, anytime!

Kursus Kahwin

I have a bestfriend of 14 years and....

we address each other as 'Lessy'!

Haha. Absurd, I know.

JAKIM has made a new legal rule where it is compulsory for every Muslim in Malaysia who wish to get married, to attend a marriage course.

Lessy's getting married soon and she has been bugging me to teman her to Kursus Kahwin, just because her fiancee is away! So, me being a good friend, has commited my weekend to her and only her. Pfttt.

It was a 2 days course held at Masjid Al-Taqwa, Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI). The course started at 2pm and finished at 7pm on Saturday but it started a bit early on Sunday; 8.30am and we finshed off by 4pm.

The course discussed about basic things like Marriage Procedure, Communication in Marriage, Health, Financial Management, 'Akidah & Ibadah, Ways to Handle Stress in Marriage etc.

  As basic as it sounds, it was refreshing to be reminded with all the hukums and deeds in marriage, and Islam generally. And it is always good to listen to their first-hand experience about the hardships and struggles of marriage. It aint always a bed of roses okay?

This course is held on a weekly basis, so you can just call to make a booking.

You will get the certificate on the following week. Yup, it's quite fast! The certificate is valid for a lifetime, with no expiry date! So, even if you don't have any plan to tie the knot anytime soon, it is always a good idea to attend the course and keep the certificate, just in case! ;)

of Arafah Day and Aidil Adha

First of all, Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha!!!

Hehe

We had a long weekend since Friday is Hari Raya. Malaysian can never have too many public holidays.

Wednesday evening, Mom texted me; "Puasa Hari Arafah ganjarannya sangat2 besar. Kalau larat puasa ok?" (Translation : "Allah gives a huge reward to people who fast during Arafah day, please fast if you feel ok.")

Short, simple and no tone of forcing, I like. But it left me with a question, what ganjaran?

The bond

I'm lucky to have spent my secondary school years in a place that treats every girl as an individual, a place that teaches a young lady to be not only outspoken but grounded at the same time, a place that believes a girl too can lead, a place that teaches education beyond the curriculum of classroom, a place a girl can grow with confidence to be her own person.

We used to be in Kuala Lumpur, before we moved to Cyberjaya in 2003. My batch was quite lucky to have experienced both premises. Although the Cyberjaya school was new and all, I honestly prefer the one in Kuala Lumpur for some reason!

I spent 5 years of my life there (well 3years in Kuala Lumpur, 2 years in Cuberjaya). And if you ask me what is the most rewarding experience I could recall. Without doubt, I would say it's the friendship; the strong bond we have with each other. We grew up together, watched ourselves grew taller, we fought and we made up, witnessed each other's mistakes, we blosommed and flourished as leaves on the trees; we were there during our formative years!

Although we have left school for almost 8 years now, and we didn't see each other as often, we still can strongly feel the bond between us.

Whenever we see each other, we are back to our old kid-self. We giggle, we talk about the most ridiculous things, we make fun of each other. We connect, immediately!

Some of us are married now, with kids to look after. Time flies, but whenever I'm with them, it's like being 16 all over again!

 
Just few days ago, I was wiping my hand with this Watson's green tea wet tissue, when I suddenly  smell something really familiar. A smell of the perfume I was using back in my SSP years. The only problem was, I couldn't remember what perfume did I use back then! Grandma's memory!
Me being me, I couldn't carry on with my work for the rest of the day, without knowing it. Bad habit that I posses, when I'm curious, I just have to find out, one way or another!

  While on a mission to find out the perfume's name...

I just knew who to ask! It got to be Odd, a bedmate of mine in SSP for 3 years. I texted asking whether she remembers the perfume I used when I was in SSP. Well, it didn't really suprise me that she did remember! And she hasn't forgotten a lot of other things too. Awwww.

A Post Worth A Thousand Words

I was supposed to write about this long long time ago. But I was too busy and I always wanted to find the right time, because I want this post to be perfect!

But just recently a wise friend said to me, "We are always getting ready to live but never living."

So, thanks to her, I couldn't think of a more perfect time to write about this, but NOW!

People, last 17 February 2011, with all the blessings from God, endless support from two most important people of my life, bottomless words of encouragement from siblings, friends and the greatest companionship of 3years, I've finally graduated with a Bsc of Applied Geology from Curtin University of Technology.

Alhamdulillah...

I'm not that smart-a** who could survive a Degree alone. Binge-eating, late-night studies, field-trips, thesis-writing, I owe it most to my batch-mate. So, this post is for these people, I wouldn't be graduating without you guys, seriously!

It was a summer graduation, by summer I mean 38 Degrees Celcius of heat in Perth. I complained to Mom about how hot it was and she replied "This is only panas dunia, not panas akhirat yet." *Gulppp*

So these are my few of many other 'hats-off' pictures. It's one of the mandatory pose people would be taking when graduating. 

Oo well, you only graduate once (unless you want to continue with your Masters), so why not go all out? Haha.

 

 

 

I never knew that graduation caremony could take so long. I mean, I could hear my stomach growling when I was queuing. 

Geology students were among the last departments to be called up that night, so we promised to clap so hard when any one of us was on stage.

 There were so many people graduating, so whenever we got confused, we could just identify each other by the sash colour. The green sash is meant for Department of Engineering and Science.

The one person that was responsible for my make-up and hair-do for that day is my friend here, Farrah Buhtamam. Without her, I'd be looking like a dead zombie. Thank you love!

Maroon 5 Live in KL

Ok this is ancient, but I made it to Maroon 5 concert! Wooohoooo. 

It was unplanned, a friend of mine was selling her tickets on FB, and so I asked Kim whether she wanted to go or not. Long story short, we made it! Haha.

Was never a huge fan of Maroon 5, I mean yeah I know a couple of their songs.

Okay now, I sound like a sore loser. Haha.

Anyway we had fun although I was basically miming most of the time since I don't know most of the lyrics by heart. Kim was pretty good since she knows most of the songs. Oh, and she caught me googling the lyrics on my Blackberry. Gahhh. *Fail*

 It might not be the best seat, but hey Adam & me, we breathed the same air that night!

The Comedy Club KL

Went to The Comedy Club "April Foolery and Fun" show last Saturday! It was at Bentley Music Auditorium, the building with a huge guitar on top of it (next to Ikea). Went with 3 other friends and we thought we couldn't make it because the car broke down an hour before the show. Long story short, I managed to jump start the car and Ta-Da the engine roared again. *Ahem* me jump-started a car*Ahem*.

It was my first time going to a stand-up comedy show. I've never been to a show where you are allowed to laugh as loud as you want to. So when they host went out and warmed us up with some humour, my friend laughed and he was among one of the few that were laughing so hard. 

 So, I went, "Shhh, not too loud".  

Then he said, "What? I paid them to humour me. Now I'm not allowed to laugh?"

The 1st stand-up comedian of the night was Tony Kinne from Australia. 

Then there was Mary Burke from Ireland :

"Today is my 10th wedding anniversary. I'm so lucky, I marry the ONE. Ranking from ONE to TEN." Geddit, geddit? Haha.

Anddddd, the highlight of the night was of course, Harith Iskandar!!!!

 

I mean, how could you not laugh, just by looking at that face?

Maybe it's just me but his jokes are totally relatate-able to our Malaysian culture lah! Oh god, I can't even quote him coz it's too darn funny, it's not quote-able!! Yeap, he's that good. His level of humour is beyonddd! Man, you're fly. I'd totally marry someone as funny as him. Then, I'd be humoured for the rest of my life ! Free of Charge. Haha.

I went on the 23rd April, and sadly that was the last show for the month of April. Don't frown just yet as they have many upcoming shows planned throughout the year, visit The Comedy Club KL to check them out. See y'all there!!

Indomee Burger + Milo Ice

People!! I've been craving for Indomee Burger for the past month.

Indomee burger is ---> Indomee + Burger Ramly.

Simple and easy to make. I've tried making it but the taste isn't the same as the one I've eaten (I totally forgot where did I have the first taste of this magnificent-not-so-sophisticated cuisine) .

Andddddddd, last week I finally had my Indomee Burger at this mamak place my friend recommended me, Bestari at Solaris Dutamas.

I didn't wait to sit properly to order; "Indomee Burger dgn Milo Ice satu". Haha. Terrible monster.

Manchester City and Manchester United were playing so it was tad bit crowded. There were screams and manly-tears from Man-U fans, but  that didn't stop me from enjoying my Indomee Burger till the very last bite! It tasted exactly the same way I pictured it. Yummssyy.

I was so happy that I actually twit about  it!

We went there after watching this movie 'Scream 4' at One Utama.

I couldn't help but noticed the Bieber hair on top of this huge Tune Talk simcard. Haha. Man, Bieber is really a phenomenon!

Big Sister

My big sister and I have quite huge age gaps. So when we were little, we didn't get along that well. She used to cubit me and she made me want to run away from home. I'm not kidding, I was 6 at that time. 

After I went to boarding school, we got closer. Maybe because we didn't see each other that often. Haha.

She's so great in cooking and the good thing about it is, she always cook for me whenever I'm home. She can cook anything from Mee Bandung to Chicken Chop to Chappati. And she can bake too, dammn.

No kidding! That's why I'm not really a good cook, coz I got my big sister, the saviour. She always took over the kitchen whenever mom wasn't around. The only thing mom asked me to do was to reheat the dishes. She doesn't trust my relationship with kitchen. Haha.

Anyway, we had a girly sister dinner date at Garden OneUtama last week. Have you guys been there? The place is awesomely nice. Romantic and calming setting, white and green theme with piano playing as the background. The menu is nice and the price is very reasonable too!
